One of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities became, in the middle and the end of the last century, the victim of political town-planning and industrial plans with no vision or respect for natural and cultural beauties. Hideous factories which polluted the environment emerged around the monuments of the highest world category, and the inhabitants of Split very often searched for the clean sea on the nearby islands.
Luckily, in the last decade Split has turned a new page in its development orientation. Industrial facilities are disappearing or being relocated, modern marinas and hotels are being built, the town core and beaches are being decorated, and to the joy of bathers the sea is clean again!
