For past several years the town of Hvar on the homonymous island has been considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole world.

According to tourist guide- Lonely Planet`s list of the most desirable destinations for season 2012 Hvar took the fifth place even this year.

The town is situated in a bay on the south part of the island, protected by the beautiful archipelago of Pakleni otoci (the Hell islands) and it has spread on the nearby slopes so it resembles an amphitheatre with an arch in the middle.

The Pakleni islands are mostly completely uninhabited and as such they represent an interesting nautical location. They`ve got their name by distorting the term “paklina” (black rosin), but looking at their beauty, in spite of their name, they`re more easily connected to paradise than to hell.

As all the other Dalmatian historical towns even Hvar has an abundant and interesting monumental heritage. Most of the monuments are located in the coastal part of the town, and the most important ones are the Arsenal, the cathedral, the Franciscan monastery, the Municipal Loggia.

Nevertheless, the most stupendous monument – Hvar Fortress is situated on an elevation over-looking the town.
It has been dominating the town since the beginning of the 16th century, and apart from its beauty and historical value guests will mostly be delighted by the breathtaking panoramic view of the Hvar harbour and the Pakleni islands.

We could write a lot about each of these monuments and many others, but to get the information on the spot with a complete visual impression is an irreplaceable experience.

Long nautical tradition and fishing, vegetable farming and fruit growing-based existence have lately been replaced by a strong tourist orientation, resulting in subordination of most town activities to the pleasant stay of large number of guests.
